WHAT IS A PREGNANCY DOULA?
A Doula is someone who is specially trained in the art of giving emotional and practical support. A Pregnancy Doula provides this unique form of continuous support throughout your pregnancy right up to your birth. She offers unbiased guidance and signposts you to quality information so that you can make informed, confident choices about your pregnancy and birth preparations.
She 'mother's the mother', supporting the birth partner and the family.
HOW I SUPPORT YOU AS YOUR PREGNANCY DOULA:
The nine months of pregnancy should not about 'soldiering on' emotionally and physically whilst buying everything on the 'what babies need' shopping lists and topping it with a mad dash at the end to prepare for your birthing day.
Research increasingly shows that these nine months are vitally important for you and your baby, both in terms of physical and mental health. You are taking a single sperm and a single egg and you are growing them into an actual real life human being. It's mind blowing!
As your Pregnancy Doula, I will walk through this part of your parenting journey with you, wrapping you in a warm blanket of care, nurture and love. I do this by truly listening to you; hearing your story, your fears, your desires, your wants and needs. We will work together to validate and soothe fears and we will promote all the things that make you feel safe, nurtured and confident.
As I get to know you, I will tailor my services to whatever your unique family needs. I will be an emotional support, a calming presence, and a bringer of compassion but I will also bring enthusiasm, smiles and some giggles.
I bring a range of knowledge, practical skills and local professional contacts which I am continuously adding to and updating.
My aim is to ensure that your pregnancy is a positive experience for all of you and that it will be a wonderful foundation for your transition to birth and into parenthood.
“To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited.
Soul and spirit are stretched – along with body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.”
- Anne Christian Buchanan -
WHAT DO YOU GET:
My services are flexible depending on your needs, but below is a basic framework:
In your Second Trimester:
ONE antenatal session (approx 2hrs) during which time we might discuss matters around prenatal health and nourishment, prenatal parenting as well as talking through previous births or fertility journeys.
In your Third Trimester:
THREE antenatal sessions (approx 2hrs each). Topics covered in these sessions might be broken down into the following:
Relaxation, hormones of pregnancy, lifestyle, balancing work and rest.
Your desires for your birth, your options, birth planning, labour preparations, tools for labour etc.
Fourth trimester planning and preparations, early parenthood.
(All antenatal sessions are 1-2-1 and take place in the comfort of your own home)
Continuous care via phone/text/email from the moment we begin our journey together until you go into labour. Signposting to information, reassurance, empathetic listening, compassionate support.
Don’t live in Norfolk? You don’t need to be local to receive this level of support. Our antenatal sessions can be conducted over Skype or Facetime and the continuous phone/tex/email support is the same as if you were local.
Every woman and every pregnancy is unique so this package is entirely tweakable in order to fully tend to your needs, please do get in touch.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE:
I place great importance on the relationship with my clients and their partners. Meeting me first (in person or via Skype/Facetime), is the best way that you can discover more about how I might best support you and your family. It also provides us with an opportunity to know each other a little better and see if we connect. This initial meeting is free and there is no obligation. I always recommend that families meet with several doulas in order to find their best match. Doula UK is a great place to find local Doulas.
I live in the Norfolk Broads and therefore cover that area as well as Norwich and its surrounding areas.
If my words resonate with you, please get in touch and we can have a chat about your birth:
